Towa Opens Its New Mount Edgecombe Head Office in KZN

Retailers and hospitality operators across KwaZulu-Natal now have a larger place to visit their point of sale supplier. Towa, the South African company behind cloud-based POS software and hardware for shops and eateries, has relocated its provincial head office to a roomier building at 9 Fairways Avenue, Mount Edgecombe. The extra space is there so the team can host customers, run live product walkthroughs and support the stores, restaurants and coffee bars that lean on its systems every trading day. The timing is deliberate: with October underway and the closing quarter of 2026 driving the run-up to year-end trade, owners who want to watch a new setup in action still have room to do so before the busiest weeks land.
This province is no new ground for the business. The company first opened in 1972 as S A Cash Register and, soon after, formed a Natal arm based in Glenashley, Durban. Across the following decades it evolved from selling mechanical and electronic Towa cash registers to building software, spun up its own software division, opened a Durban retail store and, in more recent years, released cloud platforms covering both retail and hospitality. Now trading as Towa Data Systems, it counts itself among South Africa's leading suppliers of retail and hospitality software.
A bigger base for demos, training and support
Plenty of owners would rather settle on a point of sale system in person rather than over the phone. The Mount Edgecombe premises hand Towa's retail and hospitality specialists more room to run the software on genuine hardware, unpack what a given business actually needs and field questions before a single unit is fitted. A demo can be booked through the website or by phoning the team straight away.
Training has sat at the heart of how Towa works from the start. The company runs both in-house and on-site training, and its Nimbus back office software ships with staff training delivered either on location or off, whichever fits the customer better. Repairs and servicing take place on Towa's own premises, overseen by its technical director, and an annual maintenance plan is offered on POS equipment. A larger head office feeds directly into every part of that, from bench repairs to bringing new clients on board.
The head office trades Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5pm, and Fridays from 8am to 4pm.
Retail software built for more than one store
Towa Stratus is the firm's retail and inventory platform built for multiple outlets. Because it lives in the cloud, owners can keep an eye on the business from anywhere, and it carries on working offline whenever the connection drops. Stratus is made to grow from one store all the way up to hundreds.
Its features map closely onto what South African retailers actually do each day. Debtor balances and purchases show up in real time at any till in any branch. Loyalty schemes can run straight off the till with no third-party product to pay for. Mix and match deals, like buy one get one free or money off a third item, can be configured to match the competition, and promotional sales land grouped together on the end-of-day report. Stratus connects to most financial switches, FNB, SBSA, iVeri, Nomad and Transaction Junction among them, plus Blue Label and Glocell for airtime.
Towa names butcheries, supermarkets, bottle stores, pet shops, jewellery shops and fruit and veg stores among the kinds of business Stratus is built for. For a retailer walking into the festive season with specials to launch, a pos system that juggles promotions and stock across branches without manual fixes can prove its worth right at the counter.
Hospitality software for restaurants, bars and coffee shops
Over on the hospitality side, Towa's Fusion software takes in order entry, table management, deliveries, inventory and reporting. The order entry menus bend to suit each venue, and the system holds onto a customer's past orders alongside the complete product list. Shifting an order from one table to another takes only a few taps. Where deliveries are concerned, Fusion logs each driver's sales, delivery charges and commission, and leans on address auto-complete to trim capturing mistakes.
Fusion's stock features report in real time on what is in hand, which helps owners keep a lid on shrinkage and wastage. Its reporting surfaces best sellers item by item, pulls incoming and outgoing costs from synced sales data, and points managers toward where wage spend could be cut. The feature list on the Towa site runs to phone and sit-down orders, online ordering, kitchen display screens, order status screens, combos, happy hour pricing, Zapper and EFT integration, table reservations, mobile app ordering and loyalty integration.
Newer small businesses can turn to Fusion Express, a more recent package carrying the core Fusion features with pared-back stock control. Coffee shops, restaurants, fast food outlets, bars, ice cream stores and night clubs sit among the venues Towa caters to.
One back office across every site
Towa Nimbus Back Office is what pulls the whole operation into one place. It runs in the cloud, so sales and inventory can be handled anywhere there is an internet connection, Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot. It fits single outlets, multi-site restaurant groups and bigger retail organisations alike, with multi-user accounts set to varying levels of security access. Multi-site business reports let owners weigh one branch against another, and larger groups are welcome to ask Towa about custom development.
Hardware backed by a long partnership
Software accounts for only half of any pos point of sale system. Since 2009 Towa has worked with Senor Tech on all-in-one touch POS terminals that hook up to printers, scanners, scales, video and menu boards. The broader hardware line takes in electronic cash registers, handheld and in-counter barcode scanners, heavy and medium duty cash drawers, receipt and barcode printers, customer displays, card readers, weighing scales and Hikvision CCTV for multi-site shopping areas. Getting the complete kit from a single supplier means there is one number to call when anything needs looking at.
Rental options for new and growing businesses
For a fresh store or restaurant, cash flow usually tips the decision. Towa puts its packages on a fixed-cost rental footing from R999 a month, pitched at owners who are light on start-up capital. The company is also running a current offer of 10% off its installation fee for customers who reach out.
Offices across Southern Africa
Beyond the new Mount Edgecombe head office, Towa keeps a Cape Town office at North Park, 2 Fir Street, Black River Park, Observatory, along with an international presence through Swazi Cash Register in Eswatini. One national number reaches all three. Current customers can raise support tickets via the Towa support portal.
