Sandwich Baron Adds Spring Breakfast and Lunch Box Deals

Sandwich Baron Adds Spring Breakfast and Lunch Box Deals

As the business year moves into its closing stretch, Sandwich Baron, the biggest sandwich group in South Africa, is putting the spotlight on the working day this October. Its breakfast selection, lunch boxes and training lunch bags now sit front and centre beside the sandwiches and catering the brand is known for. Spring has settled in, boardrooms are busy with planning sessions, staff training and year-end reviews, and across seventeen stores the group is ready to feed those days from the morning's first coffee right through to the late afternoon catch-up.

Nothing on the menu is pre-packed. Sandwich Baron keeps no ready-made items on the shelf, so every order is assembled only once it comes in, a practice that trims waste and guarantees freshness. Customers can choose white, brown, wholewheat or health bread, plain or toasted, while French bread (22cm) and Footlongs (35cm) are offered in either white or brown.

Breakfast for early starts

Early-starting teams have two breakfasts to pick from, one light and one meat-free. The Light Breakfast brings scrambled eggs alongside toast, back bacon, cocktail pork sausages and grilled tomato. The Vegetarian Breakfast stirs sautéed mushrooms and fresh tomato through scrambled eggs, finishes with mozzarella and comes with low GI toast. Anyone grabbing something as they head out can reach for a Bacon and Scrambled Egg Pita.

When the morning calls for a group sit-down, the Breakfast platter gathers toasted sandwiches, spring rolls, ham and cheese muffins, chipolatas and fruit kebabs, feeding eight to ten people. The Early Morning platter leans on a spread of toasted sandwiches such as cheese and tomato, bacon and cheese, bacon, cheese and egg, and ham and cheese, and is sold in a half and a full size.

Lunch boxes and training bags

Workshops, onboarding and on-site training all tend to cluster in October, and each of them needs a meal that stands on its own. That is exactly what Sandwich Baron's lunch box range was designed for. The Healthy Lunch Bag holds a wholewheat chicken salad sandwich, a choice of apple or banana, and water. There are two Training Lunch Bags: the first packs a sandwich, fruit and a Liquifruit, while the second swaps in French bread, fruit, a packet of crisps and a Liquifruit. A Breakfast Bag pulls together a bacon and cheese sandwich with fruit salad, crisps, a Liquifruit and a mini yoghurt.

Bigger appetites are covered too. The lunch box menu stretches to crumbed spicy chicken livers with a ranch salad, a chicken strip boat, a chicken wing lunch box, a spicy snack box featuring crumbed mushrooms and onion rings, and mixed lunch and snack boxes carrying samoosas, nuggets, meatballs and viennas. Extras like biltong and fresh fruit can be dropped into any order.

Since every bag and box is packed on its own, whoever is running the day can simply hand them out, with no plating, serving or clearing away afterwards. That makes them a natural fit for venues and boardrooms where the gaps between sessions are tight.

Catering that scales with the meeting

When the room gets bigger, the group's platters stretch across a broad spread of tastes and budgets. The Businessman's sandwich platter mixes brown and white sandwiches with a range of fillings and comes in half and full sizes. The Health platter switches to low GI bread with lighter fillings. Beyond those there is an all cheese platter, a cheese and biscuit platter, cold meat, chicken and cocktail selections, and the Go Bokke platter loaded with ribs, sausage rolls, chicken strips, nuggets and meatballs. Most platters feed eight to ten people, with some reaching ten to twelve.

This corporate lunchtime crowd has been Sandwich Baron's focus for a long time. Its franchise overview sums the business up as a food producing and delivery company committed to better sandwiches, snacks and services, aimed particularly at customers who cannot find what they want from mainstream fast food outlets. The first store, opened in Alberton in May 1996, made its name on fresh food and free deliveries and went on to become the group's training division.

Smaller meetings follow the same logic. When a full platter would be overkill, the half sizes of the Businessman's sandwich and Early Morning platters put a lighter spread in front of eight to ten people, and pairing a platter with a handful of individual lunch bags lets an organiser look after guests who would rather have their own portion. Because food is prepared at the point of order instead of being pulled from a display fridge, customers can set a delivery time and count on the order turning up freshly made, which matters most for meetings kicking off right after lunch.

Healthier choices on the same order

Office teams seldom eat alike, so the menu is set up to absorb a range of preferences within a single order. Banting choices arrived in 2016 and the group says they remain in strong demand. Salads, wraps, baked potatoes, tramezzini and tacos line up next to the classic sandwiches, and diners can either build their own sandwich or pick from the set menu. Avocado and spinach feature when available.

Ordering, delivery and loyalty

Orders go through Sandwich Baron's online ordering system, which connects to each individual store. Starting an order online unlocks free delivery, and repeat customers rack up loyalty points every time they order, which steadily mounts up for offices ordering lunch or breakfast week after week.

The seventeen stores take in branches at Alberton, Boksburg, Bedfordview, Bryanston, Centurion, Edenvale, Linbro Park, Lynnwood, Midrand, Klerksdorp and Middelburg, among others, with most trading Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings. Every store publishes its own phone numbers and email address on the store locator, letting customers approach their closest branch directly about larger catering orders.

That same workday angle runs through the group's own blog, where recent pieces cover corporate food delivery for lunchtime meetings, laying out meat platters for gatherings and putting together appealing vegan platters for plant-based guests.

A South African menu, chosen by South Africans

Sandwich Baron calls itself 100% South African, with a menu shaped by South African customers over the years. You can see that local streak in the Go Bokke platter, the samoosa boats and the biltong add-ons, and in the simple practicality of takeaways that carry well from store to office.
